Summary:

ISO 668:2013(E): This lnternational Standard establishes a classification of series 1 freight containers based on external dimensions, and specifies the associated ratings and, where appropriate, the minimum internal and door opening dimensions for certain types of containers. These containers are intended for intercontinental traffic. This International Standard summarizes the external and some of the internal dimensions of series 1 containers. The dimensions of each type of container are defined in the appropriate part of ISO 1496, which is the authoritative document for internal container dimensions. Depending on the individual structure, containers are rated for 52,000 – 67,000 lbs of load in Grade A conditions (including the weight of the container).

 

The conditions of the containers in these tests were Grade B with moderate rust and degradation from overseas transport. One unit was coated with the Theis Tecton materials and the other unit was reinforced on the roof by strategically placing specially engineered timbers and then applying the Theis Tecton over the top. The load was applied to the roof of the sprayed unit and failure occurred at 132,798lbs. Failure was deemed when the doors unlatched and opened. The unit ,which was reinforced and sprayed, did not reach a point of failure but testing stopped at 167,000lbs due to the testing equipment failing under the weight of the test.

Theis Tecton materials are a proven technology utilized for over ten years in the harshest environments in the planet.
